Tourmaline (“Floater”)
Description
Tourmaline (“Floater”)Tourmalines are certainly among the most popular species for collectors, and no matter how many one encounters, a good one will always draw attention. This beautiful specimen has a striking color combination with gemmy colorless "Achroite" terminations, which give way to a stunning teal blue color that mixes into an inky purple color (almost black) in the center. This piece is a complete floater, with no visible point of attachment that I can detect.
Several remarkably sharp AND lustrous crystals of jet-black Sphalerite with notably SMOOTH faces – hardly any striations at all on many faces – are gently intermixed and sitting atop a crystallized “plate” of soft beige-cream-colored compressed rhombohedra or “discs” of Siderite
I love that the center of the specimen was etched out
